TO-DO FOR WINTER WEEKEND

We can’t wait to have you join us for a wonderful GIV Winter Weekend!

Here is an overview of all of the information you need to be ready for your Institute:

Registration: Friday, February 10th, 2017 from 4:00 – 4:45 pm in Goddard’s Haybarn Theater. It is very important that you arrive promptly — every minute counts in this whirlwind weekend! The location will be marked with signs.

Departure: Sunday, February 12th at approximately 3:00 pm in Haybarn Theater for all students, immediately following Closing Presentations.

Student Contract: Please sign and have your parents sign the enclosed Student Contract and bring it with you to registration.

Food: Delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Goddard cafeteria are included. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available; if you have special dietary needs, please call us prior to February 1st at 802-865-4448. There is no snack bar and no vending machines on campus, so plan ahead and bring some snacks with you if you need to eat frequently.

Health: Please make sure you speak to staff at registration about all medications. If you
will be taking prescription medication, bring just the amount of pills you need, in the original pharmacy bottle. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you are concerned about physical or emotional challenges that may need special accommodation, please call us at 802-865-4448 before February 1, 2017.

What to bring: Bedding (sheets, blanket, pillow and towel) is provided. Pack comfortable clothing and shoes, boots, jacket, etc. for outdoor time and moving around campus. A pad of paper and pen for writing is helpful. More packing suggestions available at our website: http://givwinterweekend.weebly.com. Most importantly: bring your willingness to explore, discover something new about yourself, and find new passions!

What not to bring: Since GIV is all about community, use of personal media devices such as cell phones, personal audio, hand-held game devices, etc. is discouraged. If you bring a device with you, it should be left in your room. Students in topics encouraged to bring laptops to facilitate post-Institute work will have secure storage provided in Goddard’s Community Center for non-class time.

Valuables: We encourage you to bring nothing valuable, as the dorm rooms don’t lock from the outside. If you are in Architecture Invention, Animals and Law, Bioinformatics, or Social Entrepreneurship, you may bring a laptop with you for use in class. Safe storage in the Goddard Community Center for your laptop will be provided.

Cars: If you drive yourself, please park in the lower parking lot adjacent to Haybarn Theater. You will be asked to hand in your keys at registration. Keys will be returned on Sunday afternoon.

We trust this will be a time of growth for you, a place to ask questions and learn, to network and make friends, to discover and connect and have tons of fun!
