Governor's Institutes of Vermont "The atmosphere was wonderful; everyone was nice and helpful. I enjoyed the field trips, I loved using multi-thousand dollar equipment and software, I even loved the food. I loved everything."

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

In the MAC Lab @ GIV Information Technology 2002

Program Information:

  • Learn web design and animation, video editing, networking, and more at your own level
  • Combine the technical, artistic, & business aspects of IT
  • Access Champlain College's first-rate facilities

Did you ever wonder how a code creates characters, how insight becomes a web site, or did you ever wish to dig into digital video or paint with pixels? If so, the Governor's Institute on Information Technology is for you.

During the week-long Institute in Information Technology, web strategy and design, Photoshop, electronic game design, and digital video, html and object-oriented programming are some of the computer fields explored. Designed to open up the many-faceted worlds of the computer, join 40 other motivated students in this exciting Institute held on Champlain College's campus in Burlington. We will work in state-of-the-art facilities and on state-of-the-art equipment - the hardware and software you have dreamed of using.

This Institute is a collaborative offering designed by GIV and the Vermont Information Technology Center (VITC) at Champlain College. Modeled along the lines of Champlain College's degree programs, the GIV IT will give students the opportunity to dive into a variet of venues, follow industry models such as team-based work, and combine the technical, artistic, and business aspects of IT. College faculty and guest professional speakers guide teams of students in hands-on projects ranging from creating an interactive Flash-based website to crafting your own 2D game. We gain inspiration from electronic game-play and future technologies as described by science-fiction writers. Evening events may involve anything fom a who-done-it mystery dinner to watching award-winning computer animations to a fast game of miniature golf.

The only prerequisite is to be willing to take a risk, jump in, and explore. Our goal is to use the box to "think out of the box." So join us on Champlain College's beautiful Burlington campus - with a view of Lake Champlain - for a week of challenging mind games.
