This fall, GIV offers two opportunities for ARTrageous day-long immersion in the arts led by professional artists who are faculty with the Governor's Institute on the Arts. These will be open to all high school students grades 9-12. There will be separate morning workshops available for parents and educators.
ArtShops are designed to give high school students a taste of
the Governor's Institute on the Arts 2-week experience compacted into a
single day. GIA is so amazing we want everyone to know about it!
The cost? Just $25 for each day long ArtShop.
Can you do them both? Of course! We can accommodate 25 people at each, so send in your registration and money today!

2004 ArtShops:
JAZZ AND POETRY
A workshop with Verandah Porche and Eugene Uman
Saturday, November 20, 2004, 9am-4pm At the Vermont Jazz Center in Brattleboro
A day to immerse ourselves in word-and-music-making, to shared an exploration of sound and language.
Working together, alone, and in small groups, we will build pieces with music and spoken word from scratch,
and perform them. Participants should bring writing implements, images and riff to share, and instruments
(anything you have! Your voice, your bagpipes!) Top it off with a bag lunch and you're set!
WORDS & MUSIC/MUSIC & WORDS
A workshop with Dennis Murphy and Geof Hewitt
Saturday, January 8, 2005; 9am-4pm At U-32 High School in East Montpelier
Explore the many ways words and music can interact!
From drumming on an overturned trash can to strumming on a stringed instrument;
from babbling incoherently to composing a complete Shakespearian sonnet,
each of us will experiment with the happy surprises that can result from such spontaneous play.
Bring a pencil or pen and paper. Musical instruments will be provided but by all means bring your own too.
