What will I do?

  • Study with professional Vermont artists
  • Take risks & try new things
  • Build giant puppets for the community 4th of July parade

You will be encouraged to study areas of art that are new to you,and to look at familiar areas in new ways.  Courses include: dance, basketry, music, performance, painting, drawing, graphics arts/design, sculpture, writing, and theater.  A community-wide 4th of July parade in Castleton is an Institute highlight.

A typical day contains time for community chorus, two class periods in a particular discipline led by a particular teaching artist, workshops led by students, staff and faculty, as well as time to hang out and get to know other artists from around the state.  In addition, visiting artists give seminars and workshops while the

evening performance series introduces you to locally- and nationally-known artists.
