APPLYING AND FINANCIAL AID

When is my application due?
Your application materials are due to the GIV school contact at your school by March 15. School deadlines may vary so please check with your GIV school contact.
When will I find out if I've been accepted?
By May 1.
How much do the Institutes cost?
Please see our tuition information chart for more information.
Is there financial aid?
Yes, please see our financial aid information page. Last year we awarded $40,000 AND we helped students with fundraising in their local communities.
Will I be less likely to be accepted if I apply for financial aid?
No. GIV is committed to enrolling all the students selected by their local schools, regardless of their ability to pay. We have a need-blind admissions policy; if we accept your application, we will help you find a way to attend.
Does my school pay for any part of the cost of GIV?
Your school contributes a fee that is completely separate from your own fee. The student tuition listed on this site is just that: the student's responsibility. Please remember that we do have financial aid.
How do I apply?
Pick up an application from your GIV school contact in February, fill it out and return it to your school by March 15 (date varies by school, please confirm with your GIV school contact). See our Apply 2006 page for detailed information.
What is the Winter Weekend Institute?
The Winter Weekend Institute is an exciting weekend at Goddard College January 11 - 13, 2008. Again this year, we will explore the theme of Global Climate Change. The Institute is open to all Vermont high school students grades 9-12 and registration forms are available in early November.
What if I am home schooled?
Please contact Jean Olson -- giv@sover.net or (802) 229-4757 -- for registration materials. You will submit your application directly to Jean at GIV.
Who do I get applications and information from at my high school?
Please see our school contacts list to locate the person to ask at your school.
Should students apply for first and second choices?
Absolutely, if they are interested in attending more than one. Almost all 11th graders get their first choice. Most 10th graders do also, but they might be asked to consider their second choice if their first is filled. It just gives them more options. Any 9th graders who consider applying should list first and second choices. Historically, 9th graders have been advised to apply, if eager, but to recognize their "turn" may have to wait unless circumstances are such that space is available.
I know more than one other person from my school is applying to the Arts Institute. Should I still apply?
Yes. If another school sends zero or one student(s), extra spaces open up. But please include a second choice of Institute on your application if you are interested in more than one.

LIFE AT THE INSTITUTES

What are the Institutes like?
Each is different; all are interesting and exciting. Browse through this website to learn more about the Institutes, and ask around at your school to find alums of our Institutes who can give you a good idea of what GIV is like.
What is the daily schedule?
It depends on the Institute, but the general schedule for the Arts Institute will give you the basic idea.
What should I bring to the Institutes?
You will be mailed a packet before the Institute begins. The packing list for each Institute varies widely, so please refer to that sheet when it arrives in the mail.

I'm not from Vermont. May I apply to these institutes?
The only one of our Institutes to which you may apply is the UVM/GIV Engineering, Mathematics & Computer Science Program. More information about out-of-state applications can be found on the program's website.
Are there similar programs in other states?

How can I donate to GIV?
Please see our Donating to GIV page.
How can I apply to be a Resident Assistant at the Arts Institute?
To apply to be a Resident Assistant at the Governor's Institute on the Arts please contact Donny Osman for an application at dandjo@together.net.
